Year 1 Cross-curricular

We are developing for Year 1 a range of original cross-curricular projects which link to the new Science curriculum whilst also following the curriculum guidance for the second subject.

Theme: 'How the Whale Became'

 

Related to: Year 1 'Animals Including Humans'

 

Preview: An exploration of a range of ancient and modern animal origin myths, including Ted Hughes's 'How the Whale Became'. The project includes opportunities for drama, and the creation of the children's own animal

origin myths.

Theme: 'Into the Ark'

 

Related to: Year 1 'Animals Including Humans'

 

Preview: An exploration of colour, pattern, texture, line and shape to create a class frieze of the beauty and diversity of the animal kingdom.

 

(This could combine with the English activity 'A Is For Aardvark' above).

Theme: 'Carnival of the Animals'

 

Related to: Year 1 'Animals Including Humans'

 

Preview: A range of games, songs, exercises and activities exploring the diversity of the animal kingdom and its representation in music and sound.

 

Children are encouraged to discover and respond to animal representations in the work of several composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Camille Saint-Saëns.

Theme: 'A Is For Aadvark' 

 

Related to: Year 1 'Animals Including Humans'

 

Preview: Working collaboratively the children create an original animal alphabet, their own descriptive bestiary of real and imaginary creatures.
