Theme: 'Eating Our Words'
Related to: Year 3 'Animals Including Humans'
Preview: From the BFG's snozzcumbers to Ratty and Mole's picnics, children explore foodstuffs in a selection of children's prose and poetry, before creating their own inventive menus, as well as poetic descriptions of meals real or imaginary.
Theme: 'Still Life'
Related to: Year 3 'Animals Including Humans'
Preview: A project to develop close observation and still life skills. A range of activities and techniques to encourage simple and effective drawing and colourwork, focusing on fruit, vegetables and other foodstuffs.
Children are introduced to the work of artists and illustrators including Jean-Baptiste Chardin, Maurice Sendak and Quentin Blake.
(This could be developed into producing menu images relating to the Year 3 cross-curricular music project above)
Theme: 'Menu Music'
Related to: Year 3 'Animals Including Humans'
Preview: A range of songs and musical activities exploring the possible representation of foodstuffs in music. Children are introduced to music in a variety of genres and from different parts of the world.

cross-curricular art unit below)
