Year 4 Cross-curricular
We are developing for Year 4 a range of original cross-curricular projects which link to the new Science curriculum whilst also following the curriculum guidance for the second subject.

Theme: 'Firsthand Writing'
Related to: Year 4 'Living Things and Their Habitats'
Preview: An exploration of outdoor experiential writing, providing an an opportunity to extend vocabulary, and encourage immediate first hand responses in words.
Back in the classroom the project develops into the production of a class booklet of 'park poetry'.
Theme: 'The World of Flowers'
Related to: Year 4 'Living Things and Their Habitats' (particularly Weeks 3 & 4, 'Field Study Booklet')
Preview: A project to develop sketching skills, using a range of activities and techniques to encourage simple and effective drawing, including quick sketching as a record 'in the field'. Introduces the work of several artists including David Hockney, Winifred Nicholson and Edgar Degas.
Theme: 'In the Park'
Related to: Year 4 'Living Things and Their Habitats' (particularly Weeks 3 & 4, 'Field Study Booklet')
Preview: A musical improvisation and composition project in which children work together to represent musically the various trees, plants, animals and other elements in a real or imaginary park.
It introduces the children to the work of several composers, including Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Designed for the instruments to hand and suitable for a wide range of musical abilities, it includes opportunities for making instruments from novel materials.
