mouth, oesophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, spleen, small intestine, colon, rectum, anus
Starter activity
1. Group activity:
From what they already know children try and put the appropriate labels in the boxes on the digestive system diagram.
Main activities.
1. Class Activity:
Watch Videoscribe: 'the digestive system'.
2. Group activity:
In light of the above children re-annotate the body template.
3. Class Activity:
Watch Powerpoint: 'function of the digestive organs'.
4. Individual Activity:
Children draw and label digestive organs onto template. Write a sentence to describe the function of each organ.
5. Class Activity:
Physicalise the digestive system.
a. Children become the digestive system, groups of children functioning as different organs.
b. Teacher introduces physical objects representing several different foodstuffs one by one into the system.c. Children deal with different foodstuffs as appropriate.d. Include an object representing a non-foodstuff, eg a swallowed marble.
