Vocabulary

food groups, carbohydrate, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals

 

Starter activity 

1. Group Activity:

Give children a selection of food packaging and ask them to sort it into groups justifying their choices.

 

Main activities .

1. Teaching Point/Class Discussion:

Discuss children’s choices and place packaging on a large (display) food wheel correcting children’s misconceptions as they occur.

 

2. Class Activity:

Watch Videoscribe: 'the function of food groups'.

 

3. Teaching Point/Class Discussion:

Reinforce the function of each food group and discuss how much of each should be consumed.

 

4. Group Activity:

Design a balanced meal using the menu sheet. Share results with class.

 

Plenary activity 

Q: What effects might an imbalanced diet have on the body?
