Every school uses them, but have you ever wondered who made the first wordsearch,
or how long they've been around?
The first wordsearch was designed by
Mr Norman E Gibat in Norman, Oklahoma (population 40000) and published on March 1, 1968 in a local magazine given away in supermarkets in the town.
Some teachers in the Norman schools asked for reprints to use in their classes, and one teacher sent them around the country to various friends in other schools. Eventually one of these copies led somebody to sell the idea to a syndicator - and the worldwide wordsearch was born!
